This comes after the picture of the badly assaulted girl was circulated on social media.Daily Sun managed to trace the victim’s neighbour in Matsulu. The neighbour, however, refused to be named for fear of victimisation.

Cops in Matsulu kasi in Mbombela have opened a case against a woman who allegedly beat up her nine-year–old niece badly on Wednesday.

She said the young girl is an orphan and it is painful to see what has happened to her.

“But now I’m relieved because the world will know about her and that there are heartless people around here,” she said

Daily Sun discovered that the nine-year-old girl has been living with her aunt after her mother died some years ago.

Matsulu cops spokesperson Constable Nkomoza Khumalo confirmed that the police have opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) and child abuse.

Khumalo said the child is currently under the supervision of the social workers in the area while the police are still looking for the aunt whom they believe is in her 40s.

She went on thank the people of Mpumalanga who alerted the police to the abuse.

“I would like to thank all people who alerted us to such a cruel behaviour “said Khumalo

The suspect was not at home when police went looking for her.
