This as the I Deserve hitmaker was recently conned out of R49 000 by fraudsters, thanks to the cellphone SIM swap scam.

According to Donald’s police statement, seen by the SunTeam this week, the cash grab happened in December 2015.

But the musician only opened the case this year because Vodacom had allegedly reneged on its promise to reimburse him.

His affidavit reads, in part: “On 12 December 2015, the complainant boarded a plane from East London to Joburg. After landing, he tried to switch on his phone but it was not working.

“He then went to the Vodacom shop at Campus Square in Auckland Park, Joburg, to enquire about his cellphone. There, he was told someone had done a SIM swap of his number, something he knew nothing about.

“Later, when his phone was switched on by the people at the Vodacom shop, he received an SMS alerting him that R49 000 had been transferred from his bank account, a transaction he knew nothing about. He then went to FNB to ask for a bank statement and saw that all his money was gone.”

Vodacom spokesperson Byron Kennedy had not responded to our questions at the time of going to print.

Donald ignored our calls and did not respond to the SMSes sent to him.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, confirmed to the SunTeam that the case was still under investigation and that no suspect had been arrested.
